Why isn't Justin Bieber at the Grammys? Here's what we know

The Grammys is billed as the biggest night in music, and yet, so many of our favorite stars are noticeably absent. Where is Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Drake, or Justin Bieber? Bieber's biggest music moment of 2017 was singing on the breakout hit "Despacito" and yet when Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee performed the song during the awards show, Bieber was nowhere to be found.

So why isn't Justin Bieber at the 2018 Grammy Awards to perform his mega-hit?

TMZ reports that Bieber won't make any public appearances or attend any awards show this year until he finishes his next album. "Despacito" is nominated for three Grammys (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance) and yet the Biebs doesn't want to promote or perform anything until it's his own music. That's fair, however, the Biebs hasn't released an album Purpose, in 2015. So who knows how long he remains MIA from the public eye. The Biebs also skipped the Grammys last year as well.

To be fair, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee didn't need Bieber to slay their performance, but we would have welcomed an appearance from the recently under-the-radar star. Also, "Despacito" was a hit long before Bieber lent his vocals to the remix. The original song was released on January 12th, 2017, but the Bieber remix didn't hit airwaves until April 17th, 2017.

Bieber has been nominated for 10 Grammys in his career, including the ones this year, and won in 2015 for Best Dance Recording for "Where Are Ü Now."
