Stacey Fowler bid a temporary farewell to Watford on Friday's episode, leaving behind her child and her dying mother.
Actress Lacey Turner is going on maternity leave after giving birth to her first child last month and bosses were forced to write her character out of the soap.
Viewers watched as Stacey decided she had no choice but to flee Albert Square after potentially killing Phil Mitchell by hitting him over the head with a wrench.

She left in a black cab with her husband Martin and daughters Lily and Hope just before the police arrived at her house.
But Stacey left her other son Arthur behind with his father Kush while her mother Jean, who is battling cancer, is set for an operation.
Stacey had an emotional goodbye with Arthur with Kush not believing her story about having to leave to look after her brother Sean Slater.
She bid a fond farewell to Arthur, telling him: 'You see this. That's mum’s heart I’ve just drawn. So when you miss me you can press it and it will be like I’m here.'

While the police did house checks on the street, Stacey snuck into a cab with Martin and her daughters.
Tearing up as she waved goodbye to Arthur, Stacey made a heart symbol with her fingers as she left.
Lacey said of the storyline: 'She sees that as her only option, obviously Stacey has a history with the police, so she thinks this could put her away for a very long time and she’s petrified.

Lacey welcomed her first child with husband Matt Kay in July.
Lacey first revealed she was pregnant with her first child to the magazine in February, showing off her bump as she posed with her barber husband.
The couple, who are childhood sweethearts, have suffered two miscarriages previously and have been closely monitoring this pregnancy.
Lacey said: 'I can’t wait to nurture our baby – we’ve dreamed of having a family for so long.

She previously said of her husband: 'I just feel really lucky. It's really rare to spend this many years with someone and to still feel the same as it did in the beginning.
'We don't know any different, I guess, but I know we definitely feel lucky.'
