Hurrah! I love Alexander Wang shows - for many many reasons. One of the reasons being that this when NYFW starts to get serious for me. I've no interest in shows before his! So I wasn't that mad into his last show. I found it kinda same old, same old and I'll be honest that I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this one. I thought I would find it......as it normally is. However, I was quite excited by this one.
I always try to think what I could describe the show as if I only had two words to do it. This is a great way of summing up the general theme of the show and also helps me to choose the trends that emerge (which is more difficult then it sounds when you have hundreds of shows and four weeks of fashion) from the fashion weeks. I don't care how mental the two words are, they just have to get the gist of the collection. So my two words for this collection are : space age cowboy -okay so that's three words!!! Damn it! oh well!
So what made it space age and what were the trends? Well the collection featured lots of light leather, in panels and in pieces. There was a lot of very clever cut away pieces and laser cut patterns going on. I am also loving the buckles on the shoes and the strappy sandals as well. I don't know if it's a trend that will translate to the high street as I am sure on the wrong leg......
The main colors of the collection were white and black with splashes of metallic silver in there like the above jacket which adds to the space age feel. I don't know why but I get a sort of 60s vibe here as well. It makes me think of the 60s take on space age clothing. I have no idea why. Shapes were boyish with boxy jackets over cropped shorts - that short length I always describe as 1960s Irish school boy length as they look like old school uniform shorts - and there were plenty of loose baggy jumpers as well. I love AW knitwear, he truly has a way with knits. I love the twisted effect on the above jumper. I also want to see a close up of that bag!

There was a rush when the models walked out on the catwalk to get a picture of this : the glow in the dark clothing! While everyone was asked not to use their phones or record it - it didn't work and everyone snapped away! Still though - how cool!??!?!
